Real Domestic Dog Skull - Dachshund

This dachshund skull specimen exhibits the characteristic elongated structure typical of the breed. The specimen displays extremely severe periodontal disease with significant palatal damage and compromised nasal turbines. Twelve teeth remain, including three canines, reflecting the advanced dental pathology present. The dachshund is a short-legged, long-bodied hound breed. The standard-sized dachshund was developed to scent, chase, and flush out badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals, while the miniature dachshund was bred to hunt smaller prey like rabbits. In the United States, they have also been used to track wounded deer and hunt prairie dogs.
